HW 13: IRP week 2, both questions (complete worksheet before typing question 2)

You should have read at least 70 pages or more of your independent book by this weekend. Then, carefully follow directions on the worksheet given in class to prepare your week 2 responses. See "IRP Weekly Questions" link on this blog to get the week 2 questions.

HW 12: "Wonder" picture worksheet, read up to page 99

Read up to the assigned page number and complete the worksheet provided in class. Be sure you follow the directions (4 bullet points) very carefully. Here is the link if you need it.

Use tonight to complete any missing assignments. If you are current, spend 30 minutes-1 hour reading your IRP.

Read at least 60-70 pages (more is better!) of your independent book, and then complete the setting worksheet given in class. Here is a copy of the worksheet if you need it.

HW 8: Wonder 1 (read and respond)

Read "Wonder" up to page 30 and complete the handout provided in class. Here is the link to the handout if you need it. 

For this assignment, students can hand write the responses on the handout or on notebook paper. If you prefer to type, that is fine, too.

HW 7 Treacher Collins paragraph

Tonight, we will do some research to understand more about Treacher Collins Syndrome. This is the illness August deals with in the book "Wonder." Read the information on the class worksheet and follow the guidelines to type a paragraph about this illness and how it might affect August.  Here is a link to the handout if you need it.

HW 6: IRP book and week 1 response

Choose and bring in the independent book you will read this session. Then complete the handout given in class. Use this link if you need a new copy. Once you've completed the handout, type your final response. Be sure your typed response is double-spaced. Follow the formatting guidelines for papers on this blog.

Your finished response should take the answers only from the worksheet (linked above) and be a typed, double-spaced paragraph about why you think I chose this book for our class to read this session. Be sure to complete the handout first and use the RAT (repeat the question, answer the question, give textual support) technique to write a clear and detail paragraph.

HW 4: Organize your notebook for English! See syllabus for instructions.

Be sure you have a notebook, lined paper, dividers (labeled according to your syllabus), an assignment book and writing utensils.

ALSO: Check out the "Weekly IRP Questions" link on this blog to get an idea of those assignments, and start thinking of an independent book you'd like to read. Book and IRP week 1 will be due Monday!

HW 1-3: Turn in your typed, summer book reports! These will be your first HW grades of the year.

If you are still working on these, you have until Monday, Sept. 9 to submit them.
