HW 4: "The Giver" Chapters 2 and 3 Response
Follow the guidelines on the class handout to respond to chapters 2 and 3 of "The Giver". Here is the handout if you need it.
4/28 Classwork
1. Finish author profile. If done, read and work on IRP week 2, question
2. Creating Our Utopia Project. Complete brainstorming ideas for your group community, including the 5 additional categories/questions you come up with to further describe your community (see worksheet).
3. Once you all have agreed on your ideas, divide up work. You will be responsible for a 15 slide power point brochure about your community. This will include an advertisement slide that tries to recruit people to join your community. What makes your community so perfect that all should join???
Due Wednesday by the end of class.

Class Work 4/23: Author Profile
For your warm up, you will each create a brief author profile for Lois Lowry.
Use these two web sites to get started, but you can use other web sites you find as well:

Your profile must include:
1. Author's name and picture.
2. Date and place of birth.
3. Description of childhood and family. (At least 5 specific details)
4. Why or how did she become interested in writing?
5. When and why she wrote "The Giver."
6. Important themes in her books.
7. The names of other important or famous books.
8. Advice she gives to young writers or young people.
9. Current information about her. This can include where she lives now, hobbies and family. (At least 5 specific details)
10. One interesting fact you think the other two students will not include.
Please label each topic of the profile in bold. For example:

HW 1: Decide on your independent book for this session. Type your IRP week 1 response. Name the book and author and list at least 3 specific reasons you chose this book. You will need to bring in your book on Monday.
